"WORLD CUP OVERALL and downhill champion Lindsey Vonn has been nominated for a coveted ESPY Award in the Best Female Athlete category.
Vonn will compete against LPGA Tour golfer Lorena Ochoa, former University of Tennessee and current WNBA basketball player Candace Parker and IRL race car driver Danica Patrick for the award.
Fans determine the winner of all 37 categories of the ESPY Awards, with online voting continuing through July 12 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Voting can be done at both ESPYS.tv or via cell phone. Last year, more than 12.5 million votes were cast.
The ESPY Awards show will air July 20 on ESPN.
Vonn's nomination comes on the heels of the greatest season for an American woman in U.S. Ski Team history. With five downhill wins Vonn became only the second American, male or female, to win the World Cup downhill title. The downhiller also landed podium finishes in super combined and super G to clinch the World Cup overall title, becoming the first woman to win the World Cup overall since Tamara McKinney in 1983.
This past season Vonn, 23, also was named the 2008 Skier of the Year by Ski Racing magazine."
